Formation and Emergence
When Meg & Bart Sobieszczanski first met in 1993 at art school—initially through jewellery design—the foundation of ESCLUSSO was quietly formed. United by a shared curiosity across disciplines, from painting and sculpture to interiors and architecture, they spent over two decades travelling across more than 20 countries, absorbing a wide spectrum of cultural and material influences.
In 2012, both partners in life and practice, they relocated to Chicago. It was here that ESCLUSSO emerged as a studio—an atelier grounded in experimentation, material exploration, and form. What began as a series of sculptural candles created as gifts for interior design clients quickly evolved into objects that resonated far beyond their original context.
These early works established a defining language—candles conceived not simply as functional pieces, but as sculptural objects. The SILUETA series, developed during this period, defines ESCLUSSO’s signature style—thin, multi-wick candle forms shaped as a continuous plane, unfolding into arcs, waves, or sail-like contours inspired by landscape and horizon.
Chicago became the ground where years of travel, observation, and multidisciplinary practice converged into a clear identity. From this point, ESCLUSSO emerged as a distinct voice within contemporary collectible design—where material, form, and atmosphere are held in quiet balance.
